- Latvian National Accreditation Bureau (LATAK) was founded on August 30, 1994 by the Decree No. 295 of the Ministry of Economics of Republic of Latvia. As an independent legal entity it lies under supervision of the Ministry of Economics of Republic of Latvia.
- Latvian National Accreditation Council as the accreditation process monitoring and advisory body was founded on August 23, 1994 by the Decree No. 404 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Republic of Latvia.
- The Law "On Conformity Assessment" was passed on August 8, 1996, which establishes Latvian National accreditation system.
- On January 1, 2003 Latvian National Accreditation Bureau was reorganized into a state agency.
- On January 1, 2009 the SA "Latvian National Accreditation Bureau" and SA "Latvian National metrology Centre" were merged into one body – "Metrology and Accreditation State Agency."
- On July 1, 2009, on the basis of LLC "Latvian Standard" a new LLC “Standardization, Accreditation and Metrology Centre” was established, where LATAK operated as one of the structural units.
- Latvian National Accreditation Bureau of LLC "Standardization, Accreditation and Metrology Centre" according to clause 12 (2) of the Law "On Conformity Assessment" and EC Regulation 765/2008 operates as the national accreditation body.
- Since August 1, 2017 its structural unit "Latvian National Accreditation Bureau" has changed the status to Ltd. "Latvian National Accreditation Bureau" (LATAK).
- Since March 1, 2018 Ltd."Latvian National Accreditation Bureau" has changed the status and from now on is called State agency "Latvian National Accreditation Bureau" (LATAK). Gundega Jaunbērziņa-Beitika has been approved as the Director of the State Agency since 2019 October 1st.
